Connecticut Passes historic investment in early childhood Education

Bridgeport prospers celebrates with state leaders and partners

On June 10, Connecticut reached a historic milestone in early childhood education. Governor Ned Lamont joined educators, parents, and advocates at a news conference to celebrate the passage of landmark legislation that marks the largest expansion of early childhood education access in the state’s history.

Bridgeport Prospers’ Parent Ambassadors were proud to be present and stand in solidarity with our partners—the Connecticut Office of Early Childhood, Child Care for CT, the CT Early Childhood Alliance, and United Way of Coastal and Western Connecticut—in championing this bold investment in children and families.

“Connecticut is now a national leader in creating a child care system that truly supports working families and boosts our state’s economy,” said Eva Bermúdez Zimmerman, Director of Child Care for CT.

“It will make child care free or affordable for tens of thousands of families, and provide a portal where parents can find affordable child care in their community,” added Commissioner Beth Bye of the Office of Early Childhood.

This legislative package—Senate Bill 1, House Bill 5003, and House Bill 7288—represents a transformative step forward in building a more equitable and supportive system for families.

We are thrilled for the families of Bridgeport and beyond. Moments like this reaffirm the power of collective advocacy and collaboration.

Onward to a stronger, safer, and more resilient Connecticut—and Bridgeport!
