Championing a statewide effort to address ACEs & Resilience

We promote equitable systems of health, well-being, and support to build resilience for CT residents. We do this through education and awareness of ACEs, advocating for legislation that reduces the likelihood of early adversity and builds protective factors, and elevation of community voices, lived experiences, and priorities.

  • COLLABORATING ON HEALTH EQUITY INITIATIVES AND EVENTS

We engage with our local legislators, behavioral health professionals, youth-serving organizations, educators, and young people on expanding access to programs, support and services for Bridgeport’s children and youth. Together, we can invest in the underrepresented, at-risk, and disconnected young people in our city. We look forward to innovating with you!

Did You Know…

Research suggests that half of all mental health conditions appear before age 14 and 75% begin before age 24 – making early identification, intervention, and effective care critical. Not receiving effective care or a delay in treatment can result in poorer health outcomes and high-cost escalations, and can impact the ability of children and parents to engage at home, school, or work, and in the community.

In Bridgeport, Connecticut there is a staggering number of disengaged young people and disconnected or at-risk youth. According to a recent report, 42% of young people in Bridgeport have either dropped out of school or are in danger of dropping out of school, and those aged 18 to 26 are unemployed and in many cases without the skills necessary to gain employment.

Through our Community Resilience initiative, we are investing in supports that will strengthen families by building protective factors that reduce Adverse Childhood Experiences, trauma, and risk to promote better health and life outcomes for young people. This work is grounded in evidence-based research, policies, practices, and programs that address the social drivers or determinants of health to improve health literacy and achieve health equity. If we improve health outcomes then we can improve the home, school, and work outcomes of the city’s residents.

Together, we can create positive change. Let’s ensure community strength, safety, and resiliency by providing equitable and sustainable access to community resources and supports that address the unique health needs of Bridgeport’s young people and families.
