PARENT NAVIGATOR
OUTREACH & ENGAGEMENT
Location: Bridgeport, CT
Travel Required: Local Bridgeport Community
Compensation: $25.00 per hour
Position Type: Part-time contracted position up to 15 hrs per week

Bridgeport Prospers (BP) is seeking a Community Health Worker specializing in Early Childhood living in Bridgeport, CT to serve as their Parent Navigator. The Parent Navigator will report to BP’s Senior Community & Civic Engagement Manager & Parent Coordinator and work with BP’s Parent Ambassadors, and partner organizations. The Parent Navigator will serve as a “go-to” for families in the community by identifying outreach activities to reach caregivers of children, prenatal-age to age 8, with lived experience advocate on common issues raised in the early childhood space. The Parent Navigator will also attend local and statewide training & meetings to learn and gather information that is helpful to share with Bridgeport community members for the overall Parents Connecting Parents project.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Community Outreach & Engagement: Visit families and early childhood settings to provide outreach services. Participate in community outreach events to promote awareness of the Parent Connecting Parents Program and early childhood education messages & resources
Health Education: Offer culturally appropriate health education on topics like social emotional health, physical activity, and nutrition.
Developmental Screenings: Encourage parents to conduct health screenings, including developmental screenings for children using the Sparkler App.
Resource Navigation: Help parent ambassadors and childcare professionals navigate & identify local early care, healthcare, and social service systems within designated census tracts
Advocacy: Advocate for individuals and incorporate parent voice and feedback into decision-making through attendance and participation at BP’s Community Advocates Team meetings
Support Services: Provide social support, informal counseling, and assist with programmatic interventions.
Documentation: Maintain and document all participant encounters through a given Data tool (Documentation may include but is not limited to face-to-face visits, telephone & email communications, and create follow up action plans).
Participate in relevant training & professional development opportunities shared by Bridgeport Prospers & The Office of Early Childhood in connection to the Parent Connecting Parents project

REQUIREMENTS
Education: High school diploma or equivalent; additional training in early childhood education or health-related fields is beneficial. CHW Certification preferred or be willing to become certified.
Experience: Previous experience in community health, early childhood education, or related fields.
Skills: Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to work collaboratively with diverse populations; establish and maintain positive working relationships
Knowledge: Understanding of early childhood development, community resources, and health care systems
Must be a caregiver of young children (mother, father, grandparent, foster parent, etc.) living in Bridgeport, CT and familiar with all zip codes within the city.
Bi-lingual is a plus
Open availability, we are looking for someone who can work flexible hours throughout the day, including evenings and some weekends.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Must be trusted members of the communities they will be assigned to serve.
Considerable knowledge and experience working with community-based organizations and clinical settings.
Considerable oral and written communication skills and computer skills.
Cultural competency skills in working with under-served communities.
Knowledge of public health systems and early education promotion.
Proficiency in computer use and all Microsoft Office and other database software programs.
